Why I am enTHRALLed with Sherrie Thrall

In a few months we will be voting on a new Supervisor for our District (Plumas County, District Three) and I personally am supporting Sherrie Thrall and I thought you all might be interested in why...

Sherrie's background in business with special work that she has done on water issues with the Army Corp of Engineers. This will help her work intelligently and make informed decisions on the important water issues that are here in the Basin.

Sherrie has been attending Save Lake Almanor Meetings, 2105 Committee Meetings, and many more to numerous to mention all to learn and get up to speed on the areas that our current supervisor Bill Dennison has become proficient at over the last 11 years he has been in office.

Sherrie has been appointed to numerous boards and volunteered for many civic committees --Planning Commission; Lake Almanor Watershed Advisory Committee; Area on Agency--Chair; ABC Board, etc. for many years, she didn't just start when she decided to run for supervisor. Sherrie has been there, done that year after year here in the Basin.

Sherrie is essentially retired (although from her schedule it wouldn't appear as so) unlike her opponent, she has no business to run and no vested interest in issues that are business related that come before the Board of Supervisors. She will be able to give the position the full time attention the position and her constituents deserve.

And again, I really think it's important to reiterate that Sherrie will have no conflict of interest with a business that may cause her to abstain from important county business.  Sherrie will have to resign from some of the boards and advisory committees she sits on, so that there is no conflict of interest in the work she does for her constituents.

And finally, Sherrie is one of the most sincere, genuine, humble and hard working, level headed persons that I know.

Sharon Thrall, the only candidate in the Plumas County Board of Supervisors race for Bill Dennison’s seat, is a very busy lady. Currently Thrall is serving on fifteen different boards, commissions or committees. Yet with all those projects needing attention she sat unruffled and at apparent peace as the interview began.

“The Lake Almanor Basin is poised on the verge of change.” according to Thrall.

Thrall, a licensed real estate broker, comes to the Plumas County District Three Supervisor’s race with a long history of community service. In addition to her current workload, Thrall’s resume has twelve positions she has held. These include Seneca Healthcare District Community Advisory Committee; Almanor Basin Wellness Collaborative, past chair and founding member; Almanor Recreation and Park District (ARPD)-Past Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary; Plumas County Vision 2020 and more.

Currently Thrall is chairman of the Plumas County Commission on Aging; Plumas County Planning Commission (appointed 2005); Chester Public Utility District, Vice President (elected 2003); Almanor Basin Watershed Advisory Committee, Chester Representative (appointed 2005); Almanor Residential Inc. (Wildwood), Secretary Board of Directors; Almanor Rotary; Chester/Lake Almanor Chamber of Commerce and the list goes on.

Thrall speaks with assurance and authority on each subject that was broached during the interview. When asked about the development of the Chester/Lake Almanor area Thrall spoke of “The Lake at Walker Ranch” project with facts figures and impact information as well as their plans for, “…affordable housing.” Thrall is thinking of homes in the 150K to 200K range as affordable.

“Another concern of mine is the loss of our youth. Nothing to do, no homes available, so they move away.” She said as she talked of the ongoing housing issue.

“ The basin has become an area populated by second home residents who are usually not involved in the year round needs.” She added.

Regarding Seneca Hospital District Thrall said, “There is a dedicated board in place, trying turn things around” when asked about the financial status and future of the hospital.

On the Dyer Mountain issue Thrall was clear that she felt much better knowing that escrow had closed work on addressing the environmental impact report. The latest prediction is there will be skiers down the mountain in the winter of 2008 or sooner. Thrall pointed out that the Watershed Advisory Committee, Cal Trans, Lassen and Plumas County Planning Commissions are all working together to address the infrastructure needs.

Regarding, “Save the Lake” Thrall is in close communication with Supervisor Bill Dennison and the 2005 license procedure.
